New Stairs ?

It's a little confusing, why after all the time and discussion,
the new steps appear to be basically copies of the old steps,
but in wood rather than brick. I realize there is another
entrance, but the main steps are used by a lot of kids and older folks.
The cost savings must have taking over common sense.
