Look this way !

Ok, I admit it. I was laying on the front deck, two inches from this guy, pleading with him/her to PLEASE look my way. Thank goodness my neighbors are used to me after 35 years.

bug link info:
Absolutely amazing the number of people who can ID these things. I was wrong. It's a small milkweed bug, better known as Lygaeus kalmii

Boxelder

It's Spring, I have a new lens for real close ups, and I'm on a steep learning curve! This is a boxelder bug, North Waterboro. Bug info Link :

Not a box elder but rather a small milkweed bug, better known as Lygaeus kalmii. A clear comparision is shown here:

Beyond my ability

There were a dozen holes in the snow where these plants were growing. I couldn't use flash, it killed the shot with the snow, and I just couldn't convey the little holes with the plants growing in a melting area near the Flowage. The plants are about 1.5 inches across, and the darker color has caused the snow to melt around the early growing plant. Mother Nature at work.

Spring melting

Walking the woods during this time of year, you see how little it takes to make the snow melting around something at all dark.
